Well, today is the first day of Day Camp for Meaghan, even if she didn’t’ finish her schoolwork yet. She won’t be going every single day, since she’s not finished and also since Sarah’s choice of day camp was something different and only for a week. Follow? Anyway, since Ron is working full time and leaves early in the morning, us girls crawled out of bed before he left and got ready to go. We were walking.
It’s not a far walk, but I had quite a workout nonetheless. Whew! It’s pretty quiet in here with one less kid. Sarah is working away at her stuff, in between phone calls from her friend and Addison is outside doing who knows what. Or in his room.
Did you notice that in that first bit? The part where I said Ron is working full time? Yeah, he is! Over at the college, he’s signed a full-time contract for the next year. Even if school is out for the year, there’s plenty of things for him to do like plan courses and do a bit of programming for them.
And send me emails.
This weekend we took all the kids to one of the indoor pools before they are done for the summer and we have to go to an outdoor one. So we packed up all the kids and tried to find our stuff. It takes an inordinate amount of time for us to get ready some day. This day, I discovered after going through almost every box in the house, that I had somehow dumped all my shorts and my bathing suit.
We took a trip to the department store for a new bathing suit for me before we went to the pool. Oh what fun. I did manage to find a decent one with Ron’s suggestions. He likes plain black ones and that made the search easier, and they were on sale if you bought tow, but I only wanted one. Even still, I found a cheap one. And it looks pretty good if I do say so myself.
Emma was very apprehensive. Sure, it was like a big bath (which she is starting to like) but it was also noisy. Good thing hardly anyone was there. We spent an hour in the pool with her, and let the big kids stay a half hour longer. Ron or I had held her the whole time, even with her life jacket on. She did get to the point where we didn’t have to hold her so close with her little arms clutching our necks. “Swim! Swim!” we’d yell as we moved her through the water. She likes bobbing too, but not water on her face.
Once again, a workout for me.
So this weekend coming up, we’re making the big trip down to see Little Grampy. We booked a fancy hotel suite within walking distance of his place, and everyone else’s that we’ll be seeing. My aunt is having brunch on Sunday for us, and my father plays guitar at a restaurant Saturday night. We’re hoping Emma handles the drive well, and we’re leaving when she’s due for her nap. Now that she naps well, and usually for an hour and a half, we think she’ll be okay. And we’re going overnight mostly for her sake. That’s also why we have a suite, for Emma. If we just had a regular hotel room it would be so hard to get all the kids to sleep. What a big fuss. I hope it’s worth it.
And I suppose I should tell you about the flower garden thingy. The patch of flowers in the shade outside the kitchen has been under dispute. Well, between Ron and I anyway. We were quite anxious to see what was growing there. I had insisted I had seen orange daylilies there in the fall before (or when) we looked at the house. I’m sure they were there. When we watched green stuff growing, however, some plants looked distinctly like irises. I insisted daylilies would grow, and Ron insisted irises would. Well, wouldn’t you know a flower bloomed yesterday. It’s a really pretty yellow iris.
I swear I saw daylilies though.
