Well the holiday is fast approaching and already I’m worried about my waistline.
Oh who am I kidding? It all goes straight to my hips.
Anyway, we survived having three groups of students over for supper. The first group consisted of five half-starved boys, one of which we know was eating not much other than ramen noodles. When we started bringing the food to the table, it was like something from Survivor around week 4. “Is this a dream?†one of them asked. They dug in with gusto and it didn’t take too much prodding for them to overcome their mother’s warnings to be polite and have seconds.
When I brought out dessert of apple crisp, one asked if it was real whipped cream. I apologised for it being the fake stuff. “That’s okay!†He said, “If it was real whipped cream, I was sure I’d died!â€
Every group pretty much went like that. One guy in the last group brought some German white wine which is the best I’ve ever had. And in a pretty blue bottle too. The last week of school Ron asked me to make up a large tray of sweets to take in with him so the students who were dropping by could have a bite to eat. I made banana bread, fruit cocktail squares, rice krispie squares, fudge and rocky road squares.
I guess it didn’t last long from coffee break to lunch. Ron is quite the popular teacher.
I also threw a small party for some homeschoolling families and we made pizzas! Well, I made the crusts in advance, and they put on what they wanted for themselves. It lasted from 11am to 3. I was exhausted from standing up all day, but really happy. It went so well. I also went to my Quilt Group’s potluck party. More food!
I pretty much have all my shopping done, just some last minute touches to go. Mom and I have to plan the meals too. Christmas Eve is Chinese food. So far, I think we’re having egg rolls, won ton soup, chicken balls & fried rice. Christmas Day is leg of lamb at my house. I guess we were talking about having a BBQ on New Year’s eve, and then there’s our New Year’s Day Open House. Wanna come?
When we go to see Grampy, his homecare worker will have made us lots of sweets too. She used to be a caterer.
See, I told you it was all about food for us! At least if I keep an eye on my fat intake, it won’t be as bad as if I eat with a wanton disregard for anything.

[...] The kids had all kinds of lessons and activities, Emma grew, walked around and still didn’t sleep. Ron left a post in my journal. It was a rebuttal from my own letters. Someone ran into our hedge. We also had our first year of feeding Ron’s starving students. I was disgustingly chipper, Emma was adorable and the posts are somewhat still messed up. [...]
