Here’s a link to Places For Writers a site for Canadian writers. Currently I am absorbing myself on the calls for submissions page.
returned to sender
I’ve been getting bounced mail messages to messages I didn’t send from people using my domain as a reply-to or something. I’ve only had four maybe, and I think I know what might be going on, but does anyone have any idea, or what I can do about it?
reason one
Part of the reason I’ve been scarce is our new computer. The one I’ve been going on about, and the one I am currently sitting in front of.
I did mention we finally got it set up with Winders XP, and the kids installed a few (not all) games on here, one of which they seem to be playing *constantly* and all afternoon, nudging into evening, especially when they get connected to far-away friends, like our old neighbours, online. So today I have re-instituted the much-hated schedule. Meaghan has 2pm, Sarah 3pm and Addison 4 pm. Schoolwork doesn’t count though. It was even interfeering with Ron’s use of the computer, although now we have files & stuff tranferred so the laptop is back to being all his again.
We’ll see how this works out. I still have writing I want to do, and it was really stifling with them being in my way.
A weekend
Was pretty much a typical weekend here. I did get almost half of my essay written. I already have the conclusion in mind even though I haven’t sorted out the second half of the middle just yet. I won’t have a chance to work on it tonight because I have some other paperwork to look after.
Had an email today telling me that the only son of my first cousin was killed in a car accident on Friday. One of the unfortunate things about big families is that there is no way to keep in contact with everyone (particularly since it is spread all over Canada). I would not have known the him if I had met him on the street or in the mall. It has been almost 10 years since I had seen him. I do feel for his mom, aunts, uncles and grandparents.
revolutionize this
Addison came galloping down the stairs yesterday, beaming and telling me how cool The Man in the Iron Mask was. Not only how much he enjoyed the story, but how much better it was than the cheapo-illustrated abridged versions we get at Chapters for $4. Save your money, folks. Pick the original versions up at yard sales.
Anyway, he also made the connection between the timeframe and rulers of the story, to the period in history he just finished. In fact it was a perfect setup for leading into the French Revolution. The Sun King, Marie Antoinette, the Bastille, guillotienes (sp?) and beheadings, then Napolean. He’s gonna love this even more, I can tell. See, we recently discovered that all of us enjoy history more if we can personalize it by reading more about the people involved, even historically based fiction. History has come alive in this house. I love love love this.
He couldn’t get this fever sitting at a desk, limited to a 50 minute class two or three times a week.
blogs and novels
You can head on over here to see the revamped Bread n’ Molasses blog, which was set up by yours truly. I even had a couple hours out of the house by myself last week when I went over and spoke to real adults. I didn’t cling too hard to Kelli’s leg when it was time to leave though. No point in totally embrassing myself.
(Yes, I wore my “I’m Blogging this.” tshirt.)
And I call attention to BnM website again because there’s a collaborative novel project going on. I wrote chapter three on Friday in about an hour. Ze plot, it thickens. So sign up if it interests you and you’re from around here!
