[...] This gives me pause for reflection, and an urge to dig out an older post of mine from two whole years ago, Homeschooling and the ADD Mom, where I bemoan my sorry state and declare we just can’t unschool. But just look at how far we can come, what our children can do, if only we adapt our thinking and get out of their way. [...]

Thank you so much for sharing your journey. Sounds like you've figured a lot out over the years. Have you read A Thomas Jefferson Education for the Twenty-first Century? It is a cross between classical education and unschooling. Schedules are looser(structure time, not content). You may like it. http://www.gwc.edu/bookstore_ed.asp

Beautiful post. Beautiful.

It's the sort of post that would be an encouraging article to have published elsewhere, too.

Part of an ADD mind set, is when I want to learn about something new, I feel the need to immerse myself in it. To hyper-focus on it. To pour over books and drink in the words, amassing the knowledge and tasting it over and over again.

This is SO my hubby. Some new interests are here today, gone tomorrow. Some passions don't pass, just mellow a bit.

Btw, I don't know if I ever told you--my mom was dx'd ADD or ADHD (I'm sorry--I haven't read enough to know what the specifics are for those) just last year. As a grandmother, who has gone her whole life not knowing the dx but working around/working with this part of her. She said it's made such a difference just /knowing/. And it's given her peace to realize the D in Conduct in 2nd grade because she couldn't be quiet or sit still was just part of who she is. *grin*
