HomeWork: Week 8
How often do you grocery shop? Do you have a usual day or time for shopping? What’s your budget for a typical grocery run?
Once a week like clockwork on Thursday afternoons. Every so often we go crazy and do it on Wednesday or Thursday night due to the weather or if it is an off-pay week. Our “budget” is about $150 – $180, for six whole people. This also includes things like laundry soap, tiolet paper shampoo etc. Now that I think of it, it’s probably not so bad. I always go here, and I always go up and down the aisles in the same way.
HomeWork: Week 7
Do you use environmentally-friendly cleaning products, or are you a “Bleach the Earth; bleach it white!” kind of cleaner? Somewhere in between? Somewhere in between, really. I almost never use bleach to clean; it’s just too harsh. The only thing I use it on is my kitchen countertops when they look extra-grungy. And then I usually lean on it and ruin whatever shirt I’m wearing.
fost of my cleaning involves a wipe-down with no cleaner at all, and then if there’s anything left, I’ll squirt cleaner on it. I use vineger on the windows, but haven’t found effective ways to clean either the toilet or the oven without toxifying the crap outta ‘em.
But honestly? I tend just to wipe stuff down until I notice it really needs a scrub.
Toilet Bowl Cleaner
125 ml(1/2 cup)borax
125 ml (1/2 cup)washing soda
1. Mix above ingredients together
2. pour into toilet bowl and scrub (the shit out of it) vigorously with a toiley brush
ALSO: to deodorize your toilet pour in vinegar, leave for a few minutes and flush. Another alternative is to put 1,000 mg of Vitamin C in your toilet bowl and leave to soak over night. the result is a clean and healthy toilet.
OVEN CLEANER
250 ml (1cup) ammonia
125 ml (1/2cup) baking soda
500 ml (2 cups) boiling water
250ml (1 cup) white vinegar
1. Preheat oven to 200 degrees celsius. After 15 minutes turn oven off and keep the door closed
2. Put ammonia into a shallow pan with 2 cups of boiling water and place on the bottom shelf. Close oven and leave pan in for about 2 hours.
3. Remove ammonia from oven and add to the baking soda and vinegar to make a paste.
4. Spread on oven surface and leave for 15 minutes.
5. Scrub of with a sponge.
this will have a smell —- you could do what your mother does — let it build up to the point it catches fire and when the smoke has died down you can just take the vacumm cleaner to the oven and it is clean for another 6 months.
