still shivering

I had a dentist appointment today.

Yes, I still have the willies, and this was just the introductory visit where they x-ray and poke around. My teeth are in surprisingly good shape for a person who hasn’t been to the dentist for a regular checkup in over 10 years. Only a couple of small cavities, and I finally have some answers regarding a couple of sore spots. One will be fixed with a cleaning (the root was becoming exposed) and the other has an abcess with infection (for a looooong time) and needs to have a root canal. I have two dead teeth I didn’t know about.

This dentist said he was surprised by how little work I’d had done. For my age, I guess? I dunno, I thought it was a lot. I know I do have good teeth. I have been able to be pretty slack in their care, but I have to keep on top of it now that I’m getting long in the tooth.

(groan) But going over the x-rays was really cool.

very good essay

on homeschooling is Argumentative Comments on a Few Public School Injustices.

I’m working on something similar, and found this after I had written most of my own thoughts. What an excellent piece of work the author did.

quotes

One of the booths at the convention was giving away bookmarks with some really good quotes on them. I grabbed one of each, but right now can only find one. It’s a keeper.

“To repeat what others have said, requires education; to challenge it, requires brains.” – Mary Pettibone Poole

*When* I find the rest, I’ll post them too.

The booth also had last year’s agenda books as giveaways, and last year’s Teacher Agenda books for $2.50. I grabbed lots of each. They are so well done, I would not hesitate to buy them at the regular price PLUS shipping. We’ve hunted all over and paid far more for agendas that weren’t half as nice. You can see this year’s here. The booth I visited was The Knowledge Factory, and the lady is real nice. Her website needs lots of stuff added though, so keep checking back. She carries a lot of Evan-Moor books.

Hmm… maybe I can offer to work for her in exchange for merchandise… ;)

Age of Heroes

A while back, I recieved a bit of unsolicited email, and since I read pretty fast in a glance, I managed to figure out what it was about while I hovered over the delete key.

Good thing I did, because they were offering to send me a free game!

Age of Heroes is like a cross between Age of Empires and Magic the Gathering, the card game. You pick an ancient tribe, one of six, and try to build their empire while wiping out others with the draw of a card. Needless to say, my kids really enjoyed it. See?

Sarah won five out of seven times. I noticed there was a lot of stomping away and petty arguments, our family’s mark of a good game. Well worth the money! It is for 2-6 players, no age restrictions (I’d say 7 & up), and the artwork and contruction was pretty good, surprisingly professional for a small company.

Two thumbs up!

Weird

A few weeks ago, I had a dream that an aquaintance of mine sent me a long detailed email with a business proposal. This is odd, since the person in question doesn’t know me that well, and I don’t think they even have an email address.

Last night, I dreamt he sent me another one, asking why I hadn’t answered.

Yes, I surf the net in my sleep, don’t you? I’ve also been dreaming a lot about fish. In tanks. Weird fish, fish I forget to feed and too many fish all crowded together. What does that mean?

Whenever I was pregnant, I would have lots of dreams about my teeth falling out. I didn’t have dreams like that any other time.

Odd. Just odd.
