Yesterday I had cramps and could not stay awake what the pill-popping I was doing to prevent me from tearing off someone’s head. Then it rained. It rained a deluge, enough so that I took one look outside at the burgeoning darkness, listened to the rain tinkling sweetly upon our tin roof and remarked, “There is no way I am schlepping around the neighbourhood in THAT!”
Which was good since, you know, no one had a costume ready or anything like that.
We had two whole kids turn up at our door, plus the older lady from across the road. She was *not* trick-or-treating, but delivering a birthday card (with money!) to Addison and a bag of treats for everyone in the house. Mmm, peanuts. She showed up in the middle of me washing Addison’s hair and upper body. I dunno what she thought of that.
The rest of Addison’s birthday haul, the immediate family presents, included:
- a stack of books he pronounced cool to a friend on the phone, so I know for sure he liked them. (Children of Dune, a Seinfeld book, a Douglas Adams book, and two Tolkiens (the Tolkien Reader and another behind-the-scenes one)
- a Linkin Park CD (and I waited until evening to borrow it)
- a spaceship mouspad
- Homeworld, the original computer game
And we found him a halloween birthday card.
