Whoa.

Yesterday, I had a headache that worked its way into a sparkly, swooshy migraine by the time I went to bed at 8:30pm. Almost twelve hours later, I woke up.

I guess I needed that.

My head is still a little swooshy – nothing like walking around feeling like your brain is 0.0005 seconds behind you.

How else did our weekend go? Well, it was hot, then it was cold. Our whole routine was thrown off and one night we had ice cream for dinner. Ron and I took a quick trip on the bike, but – whadda you know – it was hot! We had a barbeque at my mom’s but my head was spacey and we hung around waiting for Addison to finish mowing the lawn. I brought her papers home though. The boys weeded the garden, we inflated the pool (a tutorial coming later), Meaghan hauled out the sewing machine, we recorded a bunch of audio for future podcasts, and I am miraculously caught up on laundry.

Except the putting-away part.

Today I try to get back on the saddle again, and see if I can get some stuff done.

*yawn*

The girls arrived home last night at 5:37, just as I put one spoonful of my supper in my mouth. Figures. Anyway, they had about 11 bags between them (not counting my mom) , and BOY did they ever get the sales. Best deals were Value Village and the damaged rack at another store. Apparently the clerks there had really open ideas as to what constituted damaged, and slashed prices like nuts. Sarah got one pair of jeans, brand new, for something like six bucks because the BUTTON was missing. Another pair had the buttonhole uncut. The others got similar deals, but Sarah’s pile was biggest. My mom gave them a dollar limit, and they can stretch it like all get-out. I asked them how many stores they went to, but they lost count. Naturally, they hit all the really good second-hand shops too.

They even bought Emma a shirt that looks like something Sarah would wear. I have no idea what time my mom went to bed last night. Maybe my Mom will leave a comment. (subtle hint)

So Thursday night I had the brilliant idea that I have enough stuff kicking around for me to have a small yard sale this morning (Saturday). I spent most of Friday very sleepy and made half-hearted attempt to organize myself, but it was so not working. This morning when I woke up at 7:45 to a bang which I still haven’t figured out, I said to myself, “Frig this,” and rolled over and went back to sleep. I didn’t feel like scrambling to haul stuff outside, organize tables, find my sign, some change and generally start my day with an adrenalin rush.

Don’t you hate when that happens?

Anyway, when I finally did get up, I discovered someone up my street is having a yard sale, and since I’m on the corner, everyone driving by is looking in my yard to see if the sign posted on the telephone pole belongs to me.

Sigh.

But today’s high? 33C/91F. And it’s currently over 25c/77F out there.

So maybe next week. Heck, all my stuff is priced now. Ooo! It just occured to me the bang I heard might have been whomever putting the sign on the telephone pole. It’s happened before – this one Friday night last summer, around 11:30, some guy came by and used about three thousand staples with a cranky staple gun to stick a sign up and we had all our windows open, trying desperately to go to sleep.

No wonder you think our money is funny

Now, us Canadians, we know you’ve been laughing at our funny-coloured money for years. Then when we came out with the ability to put colour on our coins, a collective, “Oh cool!” was heard around the world.

But this? This clearly sets us back in the point-and-laugh category.

(Big honkin’ Flash warning.)

Our very first podcast!

What’s a podcast, you ask? Eh, really only a fancy term for an audio file you can listen to on your ipod. Don’t have an ipod? No problem, it’s in MP3 format, so your computer should play it.

Pod for Thought #1 Please right-click and “save as”, so it goes on your hard drive (or your ipod) and you can listen to it from there. File size is just over 16MB, running time is 17:04.

Things we discuss: what to discuss, our backgrounds growing up, homesteading and homeschooling. It’s a crash course introduction to Ron & Andrea, with a couple funny bits tossed in. Enjoy!

ETA: please let me know what you think!

Girly update

Well, Sarah’s friend Becky wound up not staying overnight, (Odd reason to me, and aren’t all friends named Becky at this age?) but I do have some stats for you.

I didn’t hit a giggle tolerance, but my mess tolerance level kicked in around 8pm when I discovered Sarah and Meaghan hadn’t done their afternoon chores or much of anything else.

We watched the movie Hitch and I really enjoyed it. We all did. I thought it was really well-written.

I think people (except for Ron) were finally asleep by 12:30. I know I was!

And they managed to leave here at 8:24, partly thanks to Sarah setting her alarm (BEEP! BEEP!) for 7:30. Becky showed up at 8, and my mom showed up at 8:22.

Tune in later for the rest.
