Ron and I are coming up on our 12th year of homeschooling soon, and so we thought we’d write he said/she said posts. Ron has already posted the 12 keys to homeschooling that we have learned (I especially like #10), so I thought I’d post my own companion list.
So in no particular order, here they are:
1. You won’t screw up your children. Well, at least not any more than you normally do in the course of parenting.
2. You will make mistakes.
3. Your kids will love you anyway.
4. You’ll discover you have more patience than you thought you did.
5. You can’t possibly cover it *all*. That takes a lifetime.
6. It’s okay to change plans mid-stream.
7. Kids are smarter than you think.
8. YOU are smarter than you think.
9. It may look hard, but actually it is quite a load of fun.
10. It really is a lifestyle.
11. It’s worth it. Should have done it sooner.
12. You don’t really teach them anything, but everyone learns. Especially the parents.
This post (and Ron’s accompanying post) appears in the 7th Carnival of homeschooling.
I love this. Excellent summary of things that I’ve learned.
It IS alot of fun.
Very wise and I agree whole-heartedly!
Wholeheartedly agree! You told me all this before we started and I was skeptical. Now, couldn’t agree more.
