You know, I was worried lately about my blog. I haven’t had much to say, just the same old, same old. Nothing new to report from the mothering trenches. No words to be inspired by. Too many bodies in front of the machine to jump over.
You know how it goes.
And then we get exciting news – new job for Ron, new location for most of the rest of us. Hurry and up wait, not much more details to report.
Ron used to work away all the time as a private computer consultant. He would always have to go somewhere just as we all needed a vacation from one another and just long enough away from the last time so we would forget. It’s kinda like how when you’re pregnant all this stuff goes on that you forget about when you are not pregnant. Like the pain of labour, for instance.
Anyway, this brings me to my point.
It didn’t occur to me until about 11:23 last night that when things go wrong, they usually choose the worst time to happen, like when Ron goes away. If you read over a bunch of archives, you may remember a few vague references. One of the ones that stands out in my mind was when we had chickens. They would invariably die on my watch.
Last week wasn’t too bad, it was kind of stressful dealing with everything al by myself (not knowing some things) and not sleeping well on top of that. Since Saturday went so well, I was looking forward to maybe this week looking up.
Sunday morning I got up to discover two kids were sick, Meaghan and Emma.
Monday morning I got up to discover Emma felt a *lot* better. But I didn’t. I was sick.
I was wallowing in my sorrow on the computer (and getting some work done by screwing it up three times before I got it right) when I noticed it sounded different and there was a weird smell.
The fan on the power supply had quit working and it was getting quite warm. I turned it off. I will be able to turn it back on for a short while to get some much-needed information, but I will have to use the laptop instead, until we can get a new power supply/fan.
I can handle this, I told myself. This will help me focus on the housework.
The day passed with me getting crankier and Emma getting whinier. Addison came home with a friend, the house was set on its ear.
I did get a chance to chat online with Ron. Houses for rent have been terribly difficult to find. When I got off the computer and finally started to put Emma back in bed, I noticed our house was rather chilly.
The furnace quit working.
Using my deductive reasoning skills and my training from the husband, I went down into the basement and looked the furnance. I saw switches. I flicked them on to see what would happen. And it ran! I Played with switches some more and started timing how long the furnace ran. Eventually, I was able to put the switches back they way they were and have the furnace still run.
I hope nothing happens today.

Me, too – hope things settle down soon!
Sheesh. Here’s to a calmer week!
I know what you mean. George went to Texas two years ago for two nights. Hayley was a year old (well almost a year and a half), sick with a horrible cold, and the morning after he left I woke up to find our fridge had died, ruining most of our food. Thank GOD his parents live a few blocks away and were able to bring me ice for the cooler and help me clean the fridge out and salvage what was still useable.
Vividly understand what you mean about those sorts of days. Do hope it gets better tomorrow.
Hope your day turns around.
hehe, don’t feel bad.. I spent the day playing with trackback php code!
I wanted to thank you for helping me out with pointers to the proper tags etc for my blog, I removed the proprietary cms plugin I was using and am going al fresco with a standards compliant wordpress theme, so I’ll have my linkback dammit!
thx again
cheers
Well, I hope you all get healthy soon and Ron and you are back together ASAP to face the world of mishaps. Please don’t worry about exciting blog posts. The are always interesting enough as it is. No need to freeze.
