Bathroom update

P9040129

Sink is in and works. Almost all the white beadboard is up on the walls.

To do:
caulking, caulking and even more caulking
painting final coats on walls
finish painting ceiling trim
paint flats bits on ceiling
install baseboards and chair rail
paint ‘em, final coat
painting touch-ups
fix lights
install ceiling light

And THEN we are done. :D That list won’t get done today, that’s for sure. I’m hoping a couple of weeks and it’ll be good. More later. Ron has the day off today.

Too busy to write – and fixing plumbing mistakes (not ours)

More later, when I can write about it all, but I just wanted to let you know we found out why the bathroom drain was leaking.

Hole in the wall

The big pipe that goes from under the floor to down in the basement? The big one we couldn’t reach from above? And that we’ve spent the morning cutting out a hole in the kitchen wall?

Kitchen - pantry removed

Well, whoever had worked on that previously didn’t glue a join in the pipe.

Edited to add: Well no wonder they didn’t glue it – the pipe was *too short* on top of that. It extended barely 1/4″ into the elbow, and from the looks of the scum and buildup on the outside of the pipe, it had been there long before we bought the house.

Bonehead plumbers

Barely any water damage as this pipe went from the elbow straight down through a central tower of the house to the basement, where the water drops spilled onto the dirt floor and got soaked away.

How to fix it? I thought you’d never ask. Cut the pipe off at a good workable height. Add a flexible coupler to the bottom end, slap some ABS glue on the top end of the pipe and stick back in the elbow where it belongs, sliding the pipe vertically in place. Slide the coupler down to fit and screw the fitting tightly. You’re done.

Yeah, that’s it. Boneheads.

I should also add that this area we’re working in was repaired by the previous owner before we moved in. She paid people to fix it. PAID. Got ripped off is more like it because any one of my kids could do a better drywall job that this section of the house. It’s hard to see in pictures because of the dark teal green paint. Boy I can’t wait to paint over this color.

Yes I’m still alive

…and mostly better. Emma says she is better too, now that the puking part is all gone. I have a weird cough left.

The apartment is mostly packed up, the girls are all playing on the P,aystaion – Worms Armageddon. Because nothing brings a family closer together than blowing stuff up.

Jo was here earlier with her daughter, on their way through to NS. Cool beans, had a great time. We both laughed liek crazy. Made me wish we were closer to more like-minded people.

Gotta drive for three hours – or at least navigate and keep Ron company. We’re both dead tired. Addison’s moving day is tomorrow. I’ll worry about that then.
