And then there was bits with the house

This week we were supposed to close on the house and get the keys. The sellers have to have a water test done, and to do so, they had to turn on the water in the house. Remember, it’s been empty for 3 years. One of the upstairs bathrooms sprung a leak. (Ron says there’s a spot in the plumbing in the basement where the could have easily installed a valve and shut the water off to upstairs but that would have been easy and sensible).

Of course it sprung a leak. The brought in someone to fix the leak, but that’s all they did. Now there’s a big huge freakin’ hole in the ceiling in the first room you come in. This is a room with tin on it too. Ron said they took down about 6 or 7 tin sections, all in a line following the pipe, and they didn’t leave any wood or strapping or anything to attach the tin back onto the ceiling.

The sellers then asked for a two-week extension so they could get the survey for the easement done. We said, okay then, we’re gonna scare up some estimates for you to fix the big hole in the ceiling while we’re at it. Right now, we are trying to get in there again so we can take detailed notes on rooms sizes, things for insurance, and of course more pictures.

(I know, I still haven’t written up the whole story of how we bought our house so cheap. The whole empty-for-three-years was a big part of that though.)

Major PITA but a good idea to make them fix it before you close. I mean cheap is one thing but extra damage you don’t need. Good luck. Hope it isn’t too stressful.
