The secret is to get along and play nice with the foreman. He is the guy that will be doing the rework, or at least supervising it. You yell and scream and the guys in collared shirts (or at least wearing non-paint stained clothes) but you always buddy up to the guy carrying the toolbox. It's amazing how much you can get done when he is on your side.

Our new house is PERFECT for us. Not too old, not too new, just like goldilocks found with the babybears things - just right. :) Needs a few things fixed up so we have things to do, but nothing that has to be done yesterday.

Now if I could just show it to you already!

I just like older houses. Prefer not to have to do too much fixing up but new houses don't do it for me much. I'm waiting patiently for the story, I guess. And assuming that you are recovering just fine.

When I was a student I worked for a developer and knew the folks that answered the calls from new buyers (since there was a warranty). There was some crazy stuff happening. One that sticks in my mind was a woman phoning because her basement stairs had fallen off. Why can't they get it right the first time is right!?

Almost all the stuff except my name ... Glad I asked about your health first!
It's a good story but maybe no one wants to hear as no one has commented that fact YET.
Did I tell you I have a new house and still this has things to be done but I am way older than you and it took till 60 till I could afford one. Yup, I did fixer uppers many times.

Nice to see you and catch up.

Yell at the builder and get stuff fixed for free?? That's not exactly the average person's experience with homebuilders, and certainly not ours! And besides, shouldn't the builder have done it right the first time?

We figured we just like having stuff to do too. Finishing a project gives us a great sense of accomplishment, we know it's done right, and it's just the way we wanted it (of what we can afford, anyway).

Like leaky basements? :D

(Ours is quite dry in most spots, and VERY COLD. Also? Spooky as all get out.)

We have purchased 3 houses. (not all at the same time!) All three were new construction. There is a certain something being able to yell at the builder and get stuff fixed for free!
