Foggy Cat

My aunt Glenda wrote a book! Actually, she wrote it a while ago (last year I think) for a contest and she won. They had a big ceremony and book reading at the governer-general’s house and everything, which we missed because I had just come out of the hospital. She did send a signed copy though ;) and it holds a place of honour with all our other signed-by-author books.

We give it two paws up. The only down side is the cat in the book is not black, like Portia is. Portia was the inspiration for the book.

I’m sorry to say that it’s not available on Amazon, and it was a limited print run, but they are doing a second printing, so that’s a good sign! Because she was the contest winner, a copy of the book will be given to every new mom in the province, as part of the Early literacy program. (I still have the books and the bag they came in when Emma was born.)

You can get the book from:

The UNB bookstore

Way to go, Glenda. Little Nanny would have been so proud.

    Wow, that is so neat!

  3. Carrie K. says:

    Good for you Aunt Glenda!

Andrea – I’m still having trouble when I load your blog. It slows everything way down and sometimes freezes altogether. I just wanted you to know I’m still reading in Bloglines, but I don’t always click over to leave a comment cause I’m usually in a hurry. :)

  4. Jill says:

That’s cool, especially that new moms are given a copy.

  5. Jax says:

    that is so fabulous!

  6. Aunt Glenda says:

Thanks for the PR, Andrea , and for all the lovely comments!
An up-date: Foggy Cat is selling well…in fact out of 1000 printed there are only 200 left. This is surprising as it is not in the big bookstores, only the independent ones. No second printing as they are into the publication of the next winner.
How it all started: In the summer of 2006 I entered a writing contest for a baby book for the Born To Read Program, which places books in NB hospitals for new-borns to take home with them. The program was started by one woman in St.Stephen, Shirley Downey, and has spread nationwide. The launch was held in Fredericton at the Lieutenant-Governor’s house, as he, Hermenegilde Chiasson, is the honourary Chair of Born To Read.
The illustrations are by Robert Lyon who is a wildlife artist living in Sackville, NB.
The publisher is the Early Childhood Centre of the University of New Brunswick where out-of-province people can purchase a copy.
Trivia: Neither Robert’s cat nor mine is an orange tabby!

Yep! Damara has her very own copy of Foggy Cat. Thanks, Aunt Glenda!
