Yesterday when we were out running around, we stopped into Global, a second-hand clothing store.
As a side note, why do all the second-hand clothing stores here, no matter if chain or independant, advertise that all their clothing comes from the States? “But we have U.S. clothing, none of that crappy Canadian stuff…” which is probably made in the US or overseas anwyay, but I digress. A lot.
Despairing of my still-swollen belly and winter shirts that seem to have shrunk lengthwise, I looked around for some long-sleeved and long-bodied shirts for me. Emma and I made fun of the costumes and lo, found some seasonally appropritate long-sleeved shirts.
“What do you think of this?” I asked Sarah. I held up a soft, comfy white long-sleeve mock-t with leaves and pumpkins drifting all over it.
“Are you for real?” Her eyebrow raised.
“What? It’s cute.”
“Whatever, mom.” She rolled her eyes and quickly moved to the opposite end of the store.
Emma looked up at me. “I think it looks nice. You should go try it on.” We then found an orange turleneck for her with ghosts all over it and the word BOO! in black. “YAY! Now we can match, Mommy!”
We found Meaghan rifling through racks. “What do you think of this?” I asked her.
“Seriously?”
Really, I don’t know why I go shopping with them. “What is so wrong with this shirt?”
“Fine then, get it. See if I care.”
Five minutes later we made up when we found really ugly pants and bemoaned how I forgot the camera. Again. One pair was black jeans with extra-wide legs and a flaming orange animal print inserted down each side seam. The other was a pair of polar fleece pants in some sort of tribal print. For adults.
Personally, I thought the horizontal-striped purple and lime leggings in Emma’s size was really cute and kicky, but she turned on me then too, so I didn’t push it.
Today I am wearing my new shirt. Partly because Emma picked it out for me and party because it feels nice and looks cute. So if you don’t think grown women wearing pumpkin-and-leaf-print shirts looks good, tough. Just don’t tell me.
And thank God I don’t wear applique vests. I mean, it could be worse, right?

Personally, I think holiday or seasonal shirts are cute as can be. I do however draw the line at anything Bedazzled
