My sewing mojo; I has it

I sewed on the weekend. Yes, somewhere in between Emma running me ragged and Ron needing me as an assitant to him ripping up floors and tearing down ceilings, I managed to use both my sewing machines.

Yeah, I said both.

I took my dusty and forlorn serger out of a random box under a pile of other boxes tossed on top, and oiled it and rethreaded it. I dug out the fabric Emma picked out months ago, and made a pair of pajama pants for her and a matching outfit for Emily, her stuffed zebra.

Here’s the part where I laid out a ‘close enough’ pattern and adjusted it right on the fabric.
Patterns - I don't follow directions
Nope, I don’t follow the directions at all.

This is me winging it and making the pants for the zebra, based on existing pants:

Here’s a bit of the process. Note I’m doing the side seam and the underarm seam all in one go. This was after hemming the edges while flat. Okay, I didn’t hem so much as run them throgh the serger so the edges wouldn’t fray.

Emma said, “WOW, mommy! You’re really good at this!”

I hope so, I’ve had enough practise, even if I am a bit rusty. :) I even added a tag at the back of her pants, so she’d know which way around they go. I had one happy girl.

Woo hoo! I stand in awe of you crafty talents! I also think they need matching nightcaps!

    very cute!

Yay!! Sewing can be so rewarding. I’m glad you dusted off the machines. I’d really like to have a serger, but I think I should get better at sewing before I go to that expense. Have fun with it!

You get lots of extra points for the matching zebra pjs. I should really do some pjs for Tigger. I hate buying ones with anything that is merchandising for a movie or tv show and it is hard to find anything else. She grew out of everything before we left so I made her bring too big t-shirts to sleep in.

The serger I got for mother’s day quite a while back. I love it. I just have a fold-up table in the craft room for now, and sewing on it is a challenge. The machines make the table bounce up and down, so I have to make sure I’m on the corner. I can;t have both machines on the table at once, because there’s no room for both.

Ideally, I need a long countertop out there, but that’s low on the list. It’s better than the dining room table, though. :D
Also, I have some other projects I’m working on, but that’s a special surprise.
