Sometimes other bloggers say it better

I read about this article yesterday when Sherry did, but she put my feelings in her blog post.

Helping girls hate everything about their bodies earlier every year. The high points are new Nair products for girls as young as 9, and brazillian waxes for the 10 to 15 set.

UGH. I’m thinking I’m glad I “shelter” my girls.

    Egads. :-(

  2. sherry says:

Seriously, there’s a lot to be said for so-called sheltering when all it really is is protecting our girls from being too grown up too soon.

Blah. It’s over 12 hours since I wrote that and I’m still ticked off.

  3. Heather says:

    Oh. My. God.

No wonder my friends think my Bratz doll ban is weird. Pole dancing… brazillian waxes.. just.. ohmygod.

  4. JoVE says:

you know, I think that brazilians are bad for everyone. It seems to me that standards of feminine beauty that require hair removal are about sexualizing children’s bodies. We can worry all we like about pr0n but how many people really make the connection between thinking “hair on your privates” is not very attractive and well all the things we worry about regarding child p(*&?

Keep on sheltering. But open up that discussion about what counts as beautiful and sexy, too.

  5. Carrie K. says:

Is society trying to increase the number of pedophiles? This is just disgusting.

  6. Theresa says:

I think I’m going to vomit.
Society just keeps getting sicker and sicker. And anyone who tells me I am wrong for sheltering my kids can kiss my rear.

  7. christine says:

Ugh. Just. Ugh. I don’t even know what to say about that.

  8. christine says:

So I do know what to say. I just went to Nair’s website and filled out the comment form.
