So it’s the long weekend up here in Canuckistan. Something about Ye Olde Queen Victoria. At any rate, it;s still a work day for me, but with Ron around to lend a hand. (we’ve been working all weekend, actually)
When Sarah got up, pretty early for her, she reminded me we had heard about a big yard sale up the road. WELL. It turned out it was a *community* yard sale and over 40 houses & businesses were involved.
We were gone two hours.
But I bought a sewing machine. This does bring my total count up to three, but it was a great deal and I legitimately needed it. It’s an older machine that is heavy as all get out and it was FIVE BUCKS.
seriously, how could I leave it there?
I also got books (duh), a castle for Emma, a small amount of clothing and I think that was it. Oh, and the Mennonites had a bake sale. Yum!

This weekend was the first ever community yard sale that I have not attended in my city in YEARS. I stayed home and watched all the doofii through a slit in my blinds. I have to do that, any sign of life at any house has ‘em streaming up the driveway, wanting to know if my stuff is for sale.
It’s like a great big tailgate party twice a year – and people wlak the streets like their drunken party revelers. I fully expect somebody to start giving out beads one of these years, lol.
Congrats on the sewing machine find, though!
Oo-ooh. I wish I could get a sewing machine that was only $5. Oo-ooh.
Tigger
I can’t believe you were there only two hours. And what a deal on the sewing machine!
Our old neighborhood has one the Saturday before Father’s Day. The development has grown a lot since we were there and the sales are more spread out. Our neighbors would have people lined up down their driveway waiting to get their hands on their delicious egg rolls and crab rangoon.
I no longer go to our neighborhood sales. They start at 6 am on Sunday morning and before early service I could easily find a whole shelf worth of wonderful books. The only problem is, I already have 14 bookshelves full. Hey! Maybe I could go through mine and have a yard sale…. Nope. No. No way.
So I hold my bibliophilia-ism at bay with avoiding sales.
Instead I buy my books for full price, one or two a week, at the bookstore.
Hmmm. Maybe I should go after all.
