birthday recap

The only thing was I didn’t take as many pictures as I usually do. Too much going on – celebrations, impatient children, bathroom renos, work, cooking, chores, laundry, oh yeah try to relax and put your feet up too. HA!

cake balls!

I made cake balls using an orange cake mix and homemade cream cheese icing. They were okay. I think it was the cake flavor. I also dipped a few in chocolate, which made them better-ish.

My children are fabulous, did I mention that? Emma got me a couple of brass stencils and a quilt magazine, and Meaghan & Emma both got me a CAMERA BAG. It’s big and professional-looking now all I need is accessories to go in it.

Partial birthday haul

Sarah got me a relax-special. A bottle of Pepsi, a huge bar of expensive chocolate, another quilt mag, a People mag, two romance novels and the other bolyn girl. Our local Great Canadian Dollar store now has used books, which we all think is awesome yet dangerous. We already spend enough there.

Hubby got me a bathroom sink, which I mentioned before. So far, we have ripped up the corner in the bathroom and part of the floor around the toilet and tub to see if we can find the slow leak.

Starting to tear the bathroom apart

I cooked myself a nice dinner – wonton soup, chicken balls and rice. Mostly because I enjoy cooking for my family. I was a little stressed by then, so they pretty much left me alone. :D

Also, I had decided a few weeks ago to start a photo project today, so I did the first in a series.

week #1 - 39th birthday

Every week until my next birthday, I’ll take a self-portrait. In retrospect, it seems like a big commitment. What if I lose interest, which is likely? And? This was the best shot, which I kinda like. Last night I did. This morning, it looks…I dunno. Too introspective maybe.

And the birthday fun has started!

Ron had to run to town for a quick something, and I figured it was flowers. It wasn’t.

It was a new pedestal sink for the bathroom! It’s a joint gift for the both of us. his birthday is in two and a half weeks. And YAY! We got to start ripping apart the upstairs bathroom! the sink up there is *nasty* with who know what on it that now amount of scrubbing or harsh chemicals would remove. And actually, a part of the enamel had been removed so that tells you how bad it is.

Then we got to moving thing and Ron took down the fake wainscoting, partly to see what’s behind it, partly because it;s ugly, and we’ll have to touch up the plaster a bit too. And then we realized that we should paint the wall before we put the sink in.

And then we  had to decide on what color to paint the bathroom. Oh, and the floor.

Ron is currently napping. For some reason he has a headache.

The birthday countdown!

Tomorrow is my birthday! I have plans, such as making cake balls. I am also going to start a new photo project, whereas I take a self-portrait once a week until I hit my 40th birthday.

That’s because tomorrow I’ll be 39, so it will be a whole year’s worth of weekly self-portraits. How very artsy fo me, huh?

***

last night, Emma and Sarah wen to see monsters vs. Aliens at the movie theater (it was ladies night – all girl tickets $6) and Meaghan and I went to get the groceries. We were able to linger over the housewares department.

Sarah is all done working at both places, and when she told Emma she was now unemployed and going to be home all day, Emma said, “AWESOME!”

This afternoon, I am heading over to a neighbor’s house to show her how to turn on her computer. She never let s thought go unspoken so this should be interesting. And it’s was eerily foggy this morning, and so overcast in white the lighting is awesome so I will walk down and take my camera for some cool shots on the way. (speaking of being artsy)

Workwise I have some new and slightly different stff on the horizon. Not sure if I’m allowed to say, but it’s kinda big I guess. It’s cool and interesting though. And a bunch of projects are finishing up (finally!) so I can get to work on my own stuff and get more sites lauchend. Very cool things happening.

Picking up where I left off

More conversations:

Me, too early one morning to Ron: “Well, you seem to be wearing your cranky pants this morning.”

Ron: “Yes I am.”

Meaghan, very quietly from the next room: “I hope he changes his pants.”

Emma can read, except she’s not confident in her skills. I was trying to help her feel better.

Me: “.. and sometimes I even come across a word I don’t know that I need to figure out.”

Emma: “You mean a word like neurotic?”

Me: “… uh… No, I’m pretty familiar with that word.”

We went to Global, a second-hand clothing store that imports from the US. (Side note: do US people have stores that import from Canada? :D ) I was wearing one of my favorite tshirts, which I bought at that store two years ago. It’s brown, and from some coffee shop. It has “See what we’re made of” on the front and a nutrition label on the back of the neck.

While rifling through the racks, I found the EXACT same shirt. just in a different size. no, I did not have my camera, but I did show half the people in the store. The clerk thought it was really awesome.

Emma and I took a quick trip down to the Outpatients at the Fredericton hospital. A surgeon there said yep, that mole on her hand really does need to come off, and she’s on the wait list. She was also on the cancellation list, but they called us yesterday wanting to know if we could go to a further hospital tomorrow. Um, that’s TOO soon.

I got to choose whether it was done with a local or putting her to sleep, so she’s going for the full round. We arrived a half-hour too early and managed to be whisked though and out again in an hour.

Cost: my tax dollars, money well-spent.

After that, we headed to the science center, then a fast food place, then the long drive home in the bright sunlight. It gave me a wicked headache.
