Keeping habits

We had hot dogs for lunch and had the buns with the flat sides. I did mine up in the fry-pan with onions and grilled the bun. Then I had to make a second.

Emma had an orthodontic appointment this afternoon. They run about every six weeks. She had concerns they were going to tighten some things and swap some stuff out that would hurt lots afterwards, but this visit was to choose exactly which ones were being adjusted heavily next time. We’re all stocked up with ice cream and soft foods anyway. Next visit is in 4 weeks, that one will hurt.

Then I made plans with Sarah to come over tomorrow night for a gaming night.

I also started forcing a hyacinth bulb and it is starting to flower, so I took a bunch of pictures like this one.

I blue my hair

It was time to re-do my hair! As I said previously, my hair is longer and shaggy, plus my roots have grown in.  I hate doing my roots so I want it to grow a bit longer before I shave it all off again. This way when I re-bleach what’s left most of the dyed hair will be gone. The blue blends with the roots better so they are not as noticeable.

Anyway, back to today. I took loads of pics (with my NEW CAMERA!!!) so this is pic heavy.

I chose a day I was scheduled to wash my hair. I wash it every other day or so and this was the day. The dye works best if it not used on super clean hair.

Nice roots, eh? The pink is faded a lot, especially on the crown now that I look. The bangs are also a bit faded.

These are all the supplies and tools. I used Manic Panic’s Voodoo Blue all over and did two foil highlights of Atomic Turquoise which I’ve used in my bangs before. The last time I did the blue bangs was the voodoo blue, so above  we can see what it will look like faded. The previous blue bangs were Atomic Turquoise. The two colors are similar.

IMG_6196

I took one pic midway but it’s hard to do solo and when trying not to get dye all over my camera.

This is after all the dye is in and the foils are done. I start around the back then do the sides then the top from the crown moving forward. I let it sit for two hours under a shower cap and went about my business around the house.

And then I rinsed it out under lukewarm water using the detachable shower head in the tub. The dye washes your hair for you – there’s even suds going down the drain!

IMG_6198

Fun times! I seriously need a hair cut but I’m waiting it out.

Also, I got my ear and missed a spot.

So other than some touchups around my ears and the bit up top, it’s pretty okay. It will likely fade a bit over the next couple days, but it covered up the pink. Hopefully the turquoise bits will fade differently and show up a bit more as highlights.

And the finished view: kinda darker than I’ve been for a while but I think I like it.

My weekend so far

It’s been super cold here and I finally remembered I owned long sleeved turtleneck sweaters. I wore them with my hoodie, and indoor sneakers (and pants) inside. Then I was warm enough.

Felt like a tool that I forgot, but they were in a different drawer, easy to miss. So there.

We went errand running yesterday, to Michael’s and Bed Bath and Beyond. I swear, BBB staff should know us by name, I love that place. Ron kept having issues with the truck on a couple of stops, so we wound up taking it to the mechanic’s and picking up my car to finish errands.

Michael’s had frames, 50% off so he stocked up. I bought a collage frame to put all my kids in, and some 12×12 plastic containers for my scrapbook papers. I got two, which I thought would be enough but clearly is not. I think I need to have Meaghan help me clear them out.

At BBB we got a new waffle iron because ours died before Christmas. I also found a plastic container that our breadmaker bread will fit in, and a french fry cutter. I tried the fry cutter today, it did a good job. Needs a bit more strength than I have sometimes, but it’s better than slicing taters by hand. Ron made eggnog waffles. Kinda meh, not a fan.

I tidied up my sewing room a bit and took stock of work in progress, which I noted on my quilt blog.

Today we’re going over to sit with the grandbabies while A&K run errands. I’m bringing over construction paper because they ran out, and a paper pad from one of the many hotels we’ve stayed at. I gave Izzy a teeny notepad from a hotel one other visit and she thought it was the most precious gift ever. Funny kid.

I also have to do a post on activities to do with grandkids  but one thing really needs a video, it’s adorable. When I sing Itsy Bitsy Spider, Ayla completely loses it. It’s like the #1 hit for the 18 month old crowd.

On Netflix this weekend we’ve watched Call the Midwife (Christmas special), Kingdom, and 2 episodes of Midsomer Murders. There’s so many seasons to that one I skipped ahead to when he got his new partner.

I’m just blogging to get back in the habit, don’t expect anything stellar. Tho I have been getting a lot of feedback (on twitter, G+ etc.) about my hair post. Huh. Didn’t figure that.

My hair: a year in review

I started the year out blonde anyway.

IMG_0151

Did my bangs 3 colors.

IMG_0215

Let it fade. Tho I matched with Meaghan.

IMG_0327

And fade.

IMG_0549

Then dyed it blonde all over again after a much needed cut.

IMG_0641

I wanted a cotton candy pink and tried a new brand, with hot pink bangs.

IMG_0644

It faded too quickly. :-/

IMG_0647

IMG_0649

Very quickly. This is my not impressed face.

IMG_0654

So I did the whole thing hot pink.

IMG_0663

A few months later, it faded (pretty!) and it was growing out again.

IMG_0943

I got lazy and just dyed the bangs and redid the pink. No cut.

Sometimes I get an audience.

IMG_0949

But I manage okay.

IMG_0957

It fades tho.

IMG_1038

And gets grown out.

IMG_1138

So this weekend, I think I’m going to dye it all blue. Then when it starts to warm up and my roots are really long, I’ll get it all cut off and start over.

Start of a new year

I’m annoyed at myself I stopped blogging. I can’t remember half what I did, and I can’t look up much on twitter, which is where I am most of the time.

Tuesday, New Year’s Eve, Sarah came over for lunch. She also had to pick up a parcel on the way, which was her new Nikon camera, which she unpacked here. Ron got her old Canon to give to me for Christmas. I’m pretty happy with it, though it it was better than the Fuji Finepix we got a few years ago.

I took her back to her place and dropped off the large watercolor pad and printer/copier/scanner we got her for Christmas. Then we went to Shoppers to check out the clearance Christmas candy. Traffic sucked.

Next stop was Value Village where I dropped off three more boxes of things I don’t need, and went in the front to see if I could buy slightly more useful stuff. I got 3 pieces of fabric – two pieces that are 2-3 yards of the same pastel paisley print in two colorways (warm and cool) and a cotton print of pansies on white with a dense border design. This i figure would make a nice 50’s style dress for Meaghan. I didn’t notice tillI got the fabric home but it was prewashed and the color had run in laces. To me it makes it looks more like watercolor.

Ron also had ben looking for a snowthrower with tracks instead of wheel, so it was also delivered on Tuesday, He played with it a lot and it is really nice. Even *I* can use it. ;) He can’t shovel because of his recent gall bladder surgery.

Wednesday Meaghan came over to bake and I finally took the rest of the tree down. All the decorations were down, everything was off the tree, but it was still plugged in and lighting up on schedule with the plug timer we had. So I wrestled it into the box. The pre-lit tree was from Meaghan’s old roommate who left it behind when he moved out. It shed quite a bit.

Meaghan made a ton of her yummy cookies and stuff, plus I took measurements to make her that dress.

Thursday it was super cold but we still went out and did our mid afternoon Tim Horton’s run. We also went to visit the three grandbabies. Ayla was chattering a mile a minute and I swear Jade looked a month older. Izzy was pretty quiet, but she was happy to have me do playdoh with her.

A few times Ayla got upset so I held my arms out to her for cuddles and she’d run up to me and then swerve off to be comforted by her Grampy. She’s a stinker.

Today is Friday, still cold and snowing. It’s also my half day so I’m trying to get back in the swing of blogging on this blog and Quilti. I even drew up a planner in a notebook to help me out.

Let’s hope it sticks.

Grandbaby #3

So this past week, we met our most recent granddaughter, Jade Juno.

This bring us up to THREE grandchildren, all girls, all from Addison & Kaytlyn.

And of course we are all smiles.

While Mommy & Daddy were at the hospital, Izzy and Ayla spent some quality time with Nanny and Grampy. Aunties Sarah and Meaghan did the night shifts.

My house looks like a train wreck or two toddlers went through it. Food smeared everywhere, toys strewn all over top and me & Ron collapsed in the middle. We had to take actual days off work because there was no way to actually work and look after the kids at the same time. I sort of managed a full day’s work over two days, but only when Izzy was snuggled next to me on the couch, ipad in hand, so she was “working” too. By the third day Ron could hardly leave the room without Ayla crying for him.

When things were back to normal and we were somewhat recovered, I looked across the now-clean living room and said in the deafening silence to Ron, “I miss those kids.”

Wouldn’t miss this stuff for the world.
