Ahhh, Dollar Store

Most of the time before I go to sleep, I like to play a game of cards. The other night I decided to play a game of concentration, and near the end of the game I noticed that I had an odd number of cards. I thought maybe I messed up somewhere, but apparently not. Turns out the deck had a total of 5 sevens. Two seven of hearts, actually. I guess I know why they were at the dollar store now.

Something we like to do for fun in our house is do logic puzzles. Actually, I know Dad and I do them, but I’m not sure about everyone else. A couple of my favorites are The Man In The Elevator and Einstein’s Riddle.

The great thing about the first one is that once you know the answer, you probably won’t forget it.

The second one, supposedly only two percent of the population can figure it out. I managed to do it in 15 minutes my first try. Since the answer to the original happens to be on that wikipedia page, I’ll give you the one that doesn’t have the answer:

01. The British lives in the red house.
02. The Swedish keeps dogs as pets.
03. The Danish drinks tea.
04. The green house is on the left of the white house.
05. The green homeowner drinks coffee.
06. The person who smokes Pall Mall rears birds.
07. The owner of the yellow house smokes Dunhill.
08. The man living in the center house drinks milk.
09. The Norwegian lives in the first house.
10. The man who smokes Blend lives next to the one who keeps cats.
11. The man who keeps the horse lives next to the man who smokes Dunhill.
12. The owner who smokes Bluemaster drinks beer.
13. The German smokes prince.
14. The Norwegian lives next to the blue house.
15. The man who smokes Blend has a neighbor who drinks water.

Question: Who owns the fish?

In the interest of clarity, it must be added that each of the five houses is painted a different color, and their inhabitants are of different national extractions, own different pets, drink different beverages and smoke different brands of cigarettes. In statement 6, right refers to the reader’s right.

(Can’t offer you anything shiny for getting it right, sorry. Just thought it’d be fun :P)

Another entry from Sarah

So we haven’t been having a lot of adventures around here lately. Well, we went to the grocery store yesterday, but most people probably wouldn’t find that terribly exciting. While we were driving there, Mom asked me if we were going to go find some “hot guys.” That was somewhat frightening, So I got her back by saying “So, you want me to blog about this, right?”

(I’d like to note that you come home with so much less groceries if you only buy what’s on the list.)

I had been meaning to post another entry sooner, but haven’t because of the lack of things to update (Monday: Got dressed today. Good times. That’s all), and partly because I’ve been playing far too much of a games called Empire Earth. It’s pretty entertaining, though the first/second Age Of Empires game still has to be my favorite. The one thing I like about this is you can build robots. ROBOTS! They shoot lasers. It’s pretty spectacular.

Some may think playing games is a waste of time, but I figure that once I get a job this summer, from then until I retire I’ll be working or at school for most of the time, so I’m enjoying being a lazy bum while I still can. Because really, mostly what I do is read books, play computer games and surf the internet. I will probably still be doing these things whenever I’m in school/working, just less of them, and I probably won’t be able to do all three things in the space of a day. so I figure I might as well fill my boots while I can.

Since this entry isn’t terribly entertaining, I pulled out a TV show idea from my evil plans folder:

“I was listening to The Tragically Hip while I was playing cards on the computer, and I got a brilliant idea for a TV show! “Everybody loves Gordy”. I’ve heard that a lot of people think that if you’re Canadian, you like The Hip.. Not everyone does, but a lot of people do. Everybody loves Gordy. Hmm.. it’d involve beer, we know that. Drinking beer and eating poutine, surrounded by old fridges. In an igloo. An igloo park! YEAH! Like a trailer park, but with igloos. Chesterfields all over the lawn, too. Or, convert an old fridge into a couch and set it up so instead of cooling things, it’ll keep you nice and toasty. Make it with duct tape. I’ll make millions, who’s with me?

One of Andrea’s kids. Trying to entertain you!

Hi all!

Sarah here. turns out I used to post here a few years back (Well, I did a few times at least) so I figured I might as well post here again as my mother is pretty busy with her work. since I know a lot of relatives read this, I’ll make a list of what I’ve been up to. Since there are a lot of people who read this who aren’t related to me, I’ll try to say something funny. At least once.

I’ve already gotten my first graphic design job! One of our neighbors owns a home business, and she came over one day, asking for help. She was talking about some posters she needed done for a womens conference that was coming up. Seeing as I have been jobless for awhile, and this isn’t exactly the most active place in the province (Oh, I think a car might have driven by today. Most exciting thing to happen this week. I speak the truth. Just ask my pet unicorn.) I said that I would be able to do it. It actually only took me 5 hours to make some posters for her, she liked them so much that she cried on my shoulder. Happy customer, I got paid for it, it’s all good.

I also happen to be graduating this year. That really makes me feel old, because in my mind I’m still about 12. I just took the CAT’s a couple weeks ago, which was my first standardized test. I haven’t taken any tests for school since about grade 5, but I still think I did pretty well. My favorite part was when I did the spelling section in three minutes when I had a total of fifteen minutes to do it. Obviously all that time on the computer paid off.

Music wise, I’m still playing guitar. I have two now, an acoustic and an electric. I would say the song that I’m the best at is ‘Blackbird’ by The Beatles, which actually took me about a month (!!!) to learn. It’s very fun to play though. My music collection is still.. really big. At last count I had 207 albums, not counting cassettes/compilation albums, plus I’ve picked up a few since then. My three favorite bands are, at current, Matthew Good/Band, The Stills and Radiohead. Most of the music I listen to is Canadian or British, with exceptions for some awesome bands (Queens Of The Stone Age, Margot & The Nuclear So And So’s.) When we drive around in the car I’m usually in charge of the music, so Mom’s been listening to some interesting stuff for sure. For anyone interested, feel free to add me on my last.fm.

I also finally got myself a flickr account. Mom had been posting a lot of pictures I took on hers, so I figured I might as well get my own. I tend to do a lot of “I’m going to take a picture of everything I do today” memes, which is why there’s so many pictures of sandwiches. There are far too many pictures of sandwiches on that account. This is starting to make me hungry.

To prove to you how serious I am, here is a picture of me wearing Emma’s coat:

Obviously this is going to make people take me seriously. Right? (I must note, this is not the first picture of my wearing Emma’s coat.)

Hopefully this made up for Mom’s lack of updates, I will try and remember to post again soon (Until I see something shiny, that is.) provided I have things to post about it. Even if I don’t, I could probably dig out some ideas for TV shows I’ve had in the past and pitch them to you. The best part is that they’re actually funny.

well, as i am at cgit i think of lots of funny things to say. of course, i DONT say them because if i did i would get in BIG trouble with mrs.j . the first hour of it was pretty boring because no one else was there, as it turns out no one would be there because of a whooping cough scare at the middle school, or at least no one that REALLY mattered, aka: k and her little evil fallower. well, mrs.j asked me
“is k still not talking to you?” and i think: does it look like she is talking to me? i dont think so. so what i said to her is : uhhh, no. then i go on about her evil fallower and all that fun stuff. so she says ” well, ill have to have a talk with k.” so i think: you better have a talk with her! then when we had our bible study (that is extremely boring) a little later K showed up. todays study was about joy and love. im NOT going to get into the study: its to boring. anyways, a little later, after the study me and meaghan did our skit and meaghan was supposed to play 2 charactures, but in the end i did 2 because my 2 charictures never talked to each other. anyways, as i was doing the skit (olivia is a WAY nicer portrayal of k) and after i was done it, the only thing i could think of was: well, isnt that a kick in the pants 😀
