Boxing Day update and the big long drive

Well I suppose I should write something, even if we spent Boxing day explaining to people what it is and lounging around watching movies. Oh, and Ron worked on the gold bedroom. Yes, I know! Even on holiday! It’s shaping up quite nicely – he got a whole other wall done – and I have work to do in it this week, including cleaning up.

I also did laundry and packed the car up, as the next day we were leaving to go to Saint John to see Addison and the rest of my family. Then it started snowing. Piles of it coming down, and Sarah was at work watching the fresh veggies get not so fresh.

It snowed all night too, but by the next morning, we’d heard that it had just rained where we were going, so it would be clear by the time we got there. All we had to do was get out of town. We even got up early, like 8:00am. Hush, it’s early for us. ;) So I piled me and all the girls in the car (the van won’t make long trips any more) and set off. Ron was staying behind as we didn’t have room plus it was an excellent chance for him to work on the house all in one stretch.

The roads were slushy, the plows were out, and I swear by the time I got out on the main highway just outside of town, there was an 80 year old lady two cars ahead of me who decided she didn’t like what was on the road but she was pushing on thru at 60 kms/hr anyway. Honestly, there was such a line of cars and no way to pass, that I felt like calling Ron on the cell phone and asking him which button was for the rocket boosters.

A half-hour later, we got to a spot where we could pass, and five minutes after that we crossed a county line. The roads were instantly clear and dry. Wonder what happened there? By the time we got to the half-way point it had been two hours when it should have been one and a half. We made good time the rest of the way though, and I was glad I had padded my timeframe. Most of the rest of the way the roads were dry and by the time we were an hour out, there wasn’t even any snow.

Tune in next installment where we visit Addison at his bachelor pad, then all cram in my aunt’s apartment for a Christmas celebration with my father’s side of my family, and then trudge round downtown and freeze our thighs off.
